Frequently Asked Questions

Compounding is the art and science of preparing customized medicines to meet the unique needs of each patient. It is, in essence, hand crafting medications. Compounding is the root of pharmacy. Up until the 1950s every pharmacist compounded drugs for their patients. That trend diminished with the advent of manufactured drugs. These modern drugs became preferred by many doctors. The manufactured medications work for most people, but when they do not, for whatever reason, your compounding pharmacist can help.

Do you have children? Do you have pets? Have you struggled to get them to take their medications? Your compounding pharmacist can help! Maybe putting the pill into a flavored liquid or chew treat would make it easier.

Do you have allergies to dyes or fillers commonly found in medications? Do you need sugar-free or gluten-free medications? Have you ever had to cut your pill in half or quarters to have the right dose? These are just some of the medication problems that compounding can solve.

Yes, we will work with you and your doctor to find the best solution to meet your unique needs.

Compounded medications do not have the necessary National Drug Code Identification number (NDC) that some insurances require for the pharmacy to submit for reimbursement. However, almost every insurance plan allows for the patient to be reimbursed by sending in claim forms that we provide. We will work to assist you in getting the medication that you need.

Compounding is cost effective because it works! How many times have you purchased a medication and had to stop taking it because of side effects?

The cost of the compounded medication is formulated based on the price of the bulk chemicals and other ingredients in the preparation. It may be more or less expensive than the commercially available product. Because each compounded medication is made for the individual patient, quoting exact prices is not possible without a prescription.
